Most of these bird carvings are Peruvian. The Peruvian bird carvings are made by artists
and their families working for the gemstone mine owners. No two are the same, as there is
no way to reproduce an exact duplicate by hand. Mostly they are formed from pre-assembled
pieces of gemstone material, then carved. Tails are shaped seperately, and then attached
to the bodies. Macaws have an extra crown piece attached to the top of the head. Some
bodies and heads are made from two seperate pieces glued together. Once assembled, the
final carving is done to complete the details and shape. The eyes are glass laid over
either paint or some colored material set into the eye sockets, or just black paint
buttons, as in the lovebirds. The finished carvings are then coated with some sort of
clear coat and cemented to a mineral or gemstone base. These are fine pieces for
collecting. I've kept the prices as reasonable as possible. Carvings from other countries
will be labeled as such.
