Cocoxinite (rutilated amethyst)
Never heard of Cocoxinite? Not surprising. I didn't either until a year ago. It's been around for a long time, but no one has bothered to develope it for the gem market. Until the last year or so. There isn't a lot around, and almost all is from Brazil. It varies in its appearance from rutilated quartz with amethyst splotches, to stones with distinct clear/amethyst zoning with just a little rutile. Sometimes the rutile is red. An unusual and pleasing looking gem that belongs in every collection. Please understand that the images here are my best attempt, but still don't get their personality. Still pictures are so cold.

When I say buff top in the descriptions it refers to a gem that has a faceted pavilion and a smooth domed crown.
