Every color but blue. And some rhodolite comes close (magenta). Garnets here are categorized by their popular names. I will give the Family name as best I can in each category. That's not easy, as there are so many different varieties of garnet, and sometimes the colors are similar. You actually have to do chemical analysis in order to truly differentiate garnets. And even then experts disagree.

If you see something you want, just click on the 'add' button to the left of each listing. It will be added to your cart. Most items will be single listings. It will noted when more than one is available; if more than one is wanted of those, just add them one at a time to the cart.

When you are ready, click on the check out button to go to the electronic cashier form. There is more information there about payment options.

Spessartite Magenta

Gold Hessonite Garnet

A member of the grossular family

A different type of garnet. Gold hessonite is in a class of its own. Typically a warm yellow with orangy/gold hi-lites. Cannot be confused with any other yellowish gem because of those hi-lites. And it's high refractive index makes for good sparkle.

...  7x5.2mm oval gold hessonite. Good cut and clarity. 0.95 carats.  $11.40

Mandarin Garnet

Mandarin Garnet. I think this is also called African Crimson Garnet. I think that is where most of this is coming from, though I've heard of and seen something similar from Brazil. Appears to be a mix of Almandite/Spessartite. Deep and intense crimson color close to blood red, with a touch of orange. Sometimes the orange comes through strong enough to make the color look peachy. Most are of the crimson color, and very lively. The reddest gem I've ever seen. Not like the Indian material that is almost pure Almandite and is very dark. Pyrope is a magnificent chrome red, but is so dark it cannot be cut in large gems. Wish I had a bag full of this material. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be too many large pieces around. Perhaps because the intense red will make them too dark. I have some larger rough pieces of this I'm going to cut. Maybe it won't be dark.

These pics may appear a litle darker than real. But they give a good idea of the color.
All of them are lively. The deep color does not hurt their performance.

6x6mm square cushion cut. Deep crimson color. Well cut. Clean. 1.25cts @ $4/ct.  $5.00 SOLD
AH! These are different. Two matched 6mm trillions. Could be mistaken for pink Rhodolite if it wasn't for the peachy tint to the pink, rather than lavender. I think these are close to Malayan. Play of colors drives you nuts trying to pin it down. Very good cuts. Clean. 1.60ctw @ $5/ct. $8.00 SOLD

Magenta Garnet

HA! Joke's on us. Magenta is very likely another of those Almandine/Pyrope mixes of garnet called Rhodolite. The last word isn't in, as it would take a full blown chemical lab run by Mr. Spock to be sure. Beam me up! Either way it's beautiful stuff.

Two 4.8mm round magentas. Beautiful color. Very good cut and clean. 1.05ctw @ $4/ct. $4.00 SOLD

Orange Hessonite Garnet

After reading and re-reading Arem's "Color Encyclopedia of Gemstones", I must say that according to the descriptions there, these orangey garnets would be classified as Spessartite. Not Hessonite. There is only slight mention of orange coloring in some hessonite garnet, which is classified as being in the grossular garnet family. However, the term grossular includes all the colors that are not red. So I'll go with that and call them hessonites. Clear as mud? Hessonites are commonly included with small bubbles called "treacle". That should not influence purchasing considerations. Most of these here are not badly included enough to affect their beauty.

...   6.2x5.2mm oval. 0.95 cts. Has a nick in the bottom that is hard to see, but it is there. Price is set to sell as is. $3.50 SOLD
..   6.2x4.5mm oval. 0.75 cts. A few small bubbles scattered around in it. Not visible to the eye.  $3.95 ovog110c.gif (9091 bytes)

Spessartite Garnet

Speesartite Garnet is a class of Garnet all its own.  Not seen all that often. That's why there's only three here. I'm looking for more. It is more dense and has a higher refractive index than most other Garnets.  So Spessartine can be very sparkly. Colors are primarily orange-red , orange, yellow-brown and reddish brown.  Malaya Garnet is a Spessartite-Pyrope mix from the Umba River valley in Tanzania. Colors can be orange, red-orange, peach and pink.

8x6mm Bright orange oval. Real clean. Somewhat shallow, but a good cut. Looks pretty good from the top. 1.35 carats @ $12/ct.  $16.20 SOLD
7x5mm solid orange oval. Has a fanlike inclusion to one side that is not easy to see on casual inspection. Nice cut makes it lively. 1.15 carats @ $12/ct.  $13.80 SOLD

Rhodolite Garnet

Almandite/Pyrope mix resulting in various shades of purplish/red all the way from magenta to mauve pink. Has a slight bluish color shift when seen in sunlight or fluorescent. Referred to amongst the in the know crowd as the queen of garnets. Sounds like commercial hype? Well, I have to admit, it is one of my favorite materials. I got a killer deal this year and the prices below are great. Rhodolite normally goes for $8 - $20 per carat. Don't miss out on this chance to get good Rhodolite at these very reasonable prices.

Please forgive the pictures. Hard to capture that lavender highlight in Rhodolite.

Tsavorite Garnet

AH!!  If rhodolite is queen, then tsavorite is the king of garnets. Named after the Tsavo national park in Kenya, where it was first found. A member of the Grossular garnet family. It gets its deep green color from traces of Chromium, but mostly from Vanadium. Fine Tsavorite rivals emerald in intense coloration. Yet at more moderate prices. Unfortunately, large tsavorites are very hard to come by. And clean ones are almost as hard to find. Everyone should own some of these, even if only as a collector stone. Fool your friends.

Please forgive these images. They do not show the really intense chrome green of these fine gems. It's hard to capture the deep color without losing definition. But believe me, the color is deeper.
