It happened when hematite in solution leached into micro fissures in the quartz and then solidified into its natural crystal form. Which is, in this case, flat, round, silverish dollar shapes. Sometimes there are yellow/red cloudish inclusions. This is literally rust, since hematite contains iron. When viewed under magnification the round patterns look just like little sunbursts. Very interesting material and not too often seen. Well worth collecting. |
